Running a successful and profitable restaurant business is a challenge but, as the many thriving restaurants show, success is possible. What most successful restaurants have in common is the right approach to marketing and recognition of the importance of efficient day to day operations.
The best performing restaurants have recognised the need for systems to assist in managing these issues and many are using the internet and touch screen POS technologies to help them achieve success.

The UK’s 10,000 surgeries are managed by a local Primary Care Trust (PCT) and, although surgeries are typically given complete autonomy to make decisions about IT investments, there appears to be a culture of regular communications and joint decision making amongst surgeries within the same trust.
A relatively recent development has been the implementation of Surgery Management Systems, which provide database application and internet access to doctors and administrative staff.
There are 6-7 different suppliers of these systems, although EMIS appear to be clear market leaders, claiming 55% of surgeries as clients. After EMIS, a solution marketed as “Vision” from InPatient Services has around 1900 users. This leaves the remaining 25% of the market shared between 4-5 suppliers, including Microtest, Protechnic (recently acquired by Ascribe), Synergy , Front Desk and GPASS (Scotland).
One of the key benefits of the solutions sold so far is that they provide access to the online services provided by the EMIS system. This includes online appointment booking and repeat prescriptions. Currently only EMIS offer these online services directly but other suppliers are known to be developing an equivalent capability, or supply a similar service using third parties such as Blue Bay Medical.
